One of the World’s Greatest Railway Journeys

Made famous as the Hogwarts™ Express in the Harry Potter films, The Jacobite steam train recreates the glorious era of rail travel, when mighty steam-powered locomotives pulled carriages of passengers and cars of cargo over vast distances in a matter of hours instead of days. Rolling through the rugged beauty of the Western Scottish Highlands, The Jacobite rounds auburn-colored hills, passing cobalt-blue lochs dotted with tiny verdant islands, the steady flow of vaporous steam coalescing with the layers of mist that so often lay across the wild landscape.

During the course of two thrilling hours, ride in classic British Railway cars coupled to a vintage steam-engine locomotive. Depart from historic Fort William, the largest town in the Highlands, and journey to the traditional fishing port of Mallaig via 41 miles of track first laid more than a century ago. Travel over the iconic Glenfinnan viaduct, a 21-arch concrete bridge stretching for one-quarter mile 100 feet above the mouth of the River Finnan valley, and along the dramatic sea coast, where the vista on a clear day extends to the stark peaks of the Isle of Skye.
